BIO Of Cynthia Shelby-Lane, MD

Cynthia Shelby-Lane, MD is a doctor, comedienne and talk show host who believes “laughter is good medicine”. That’s right; she went to medical school to become a comedienne, or at least to find the lighter side of life. As the creator of CASL (Cynthia Ann Shelby-Lane) PRODUCTIONS, INC., Dr. Shelby-Lane is outrageous, unstoppable and unreasonable when it comes to promoting her desire to combine laughter and medicine. She is a producer, director, performer and a perpetual "wanna be". Launching her vision into media medicine, Dr. Shelby-Lane has been seen and heard on local, state and national television and radio talk shows, educating Americans on a variety of medical issues. She was one of eight national radio and television spokespersons for the Medic Alert Foundation. Her radio talk show, “Dr. Shelby-Lane & The Medicine Show”, syndicated on Libertyworks Radio Network and was considered "MEDICAL SCHOOL FOR AMERICANS". She and her co-hosts emphasized the fact that laughter is therapeutic and healing. Her guests included the “ageless” Dick Clark; academy award winning actor, James Coburn; weight loss Guru, Dr. Robert Atkins and Les Brown, the motivator. She also appeared in an infomercial with actor/ singer, Frankie Avalon.

ON ONE HAND, Dr. Shelby-Lane is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. ON THE OTHER HAND, she is also a graduate of The Second City Comedy School in Chicago, successfully combining a career in medicine and comedy: "DOCTOR BY DAY, COMEDIAN BY NIGHT". She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Wayne State University, but her friends and colleagues consider her the Clinical Professor of Laughology and the Medical Director of the Laugh Factory because she believes, “Laughter is Good Medicine”, laughing out loud and living longer!
