Profile Information

I am a:
Speaker
I speak about:
Conflict Resolution, Dealing with Difficult People, Ethics/Integrity, Law, Listening Skills, Negotiation, Psychology, Social Networking, Teambuilding, Women in Business
My Bio:

I am an attorney-mediator who helps lawyers settle their clients' commercial/business disputes. I am also an arbitrator on the American Arbitration Association's Expedited Commercial Panel. Before becoming a mediator and arbitrator, I litigated "bet the company" environmental insurance coverage, antitrust, securities and intellectual property disputes as well as smaller commercial disputes of all types. I practiced law for 25 years in California before becoming a mediator and arbitrator. I earned my JD from U.C. Davis School of Law (Order of the Coif) and my LL.M in conflict resolution from the Straus Institute of dispute resolution. I have taught business law at California State University, negotiation at UCLA's Anderson School of business, and mediation at USC School of Law and the Straus Institute, Pepperdine School of Law. I teach lawyers deposition and trial skills through the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and Solo Practice University. I have trained lawyers, executives and managers at AmLaw 100 and 200 law firms and Fortune 500 companies how to negotiate better deals. I am a member of the Distinguished Panel of Neutrals with the prestigious International Institute of Conflict Prevention and Resolution and am one of the founding members of Mediators Beyond Borders. My book, "A is for Asshole, the ABC's of Conflict Resolution" will be published by Janis Publications this summer.
What I do best:
Leaving a silver bullet behind that resolves a business issue through the power of negotiation. I can do this only because I spend quality time with your department, group or team leaders before any workshop to identify the one thing they would like to see changed in their colleagues abilities to bring the business to the next level of success.
I charge a fee of:
$1500-$5K
Some notes on how I charge for my services:
My fees are negotiable depending upon the size of the group I am training and the degree to which I must tailor my training to the type of business negotiations the trainees are pursuing.

My Noontime CLE Seminar for Los Angeles Law Firms

Negotiation Strategies to Settle Complex Commercial Litigation
A Free Noontime MCLE Seminar with attorney-mediator Victoria Pynchon

Ms. Pynchon's presentation is informative and lively. Several of my colleagues are putting the mediation tips she gave us to immediate use. It was one of those rare MCLE's in which I learned something new and immediately applicable.
Martin Trupiano, Esq., Squire Sanders & Dempsey

Thank you for your presentation on negotiation and settlement. It was a huge hit.
David Lash, Esq., O'Melveny

As a corporate partner in a large national firm who has been negotiating all kinds of deals, contracts and individual points for 30 years, I thoroughly enjoyed Vickie's presentation. She has obviously made a very diligent and successful effort to master the literature and wisdom of others in the field of negotiating, and her enthusiasm for integrating what she's studied with what she's experienced herself made for a very interesting, lively and useful presentation--truly made me think about some things I had never thought consciously about, and the hour flew by." Partner, AmLaw 100 International Law Firm

Making Your Bliss Your Business Plan: Building a Professional Practice from Scratch

When first asked for my “business plan” by someone for whom planning does not mean picking up Chinese on the way home, I had only five principles at the ready:

1) Be conscious;
2) Be teachable;
3) Be of service;
4) Always say “yes” to a mediation request; and,
5) Be the exception to the rule.

That was it.

Well, and Also, I . . .

. . . gave my new business a name (duly registering it with the proper authorities), “bought” it business cards (free at Vista Print) and built it a web-site… Continue

Two-Day Qwest Negotiation Training Great Success

Yesterday's training of Qwest in-house counsel and contract management personnel was a smashing success! I had just the right amount of training exercises with instructional material to keep the enthusiasm of the participants high and the instruction deep. One participant said she'd never had better in-house training and another took my "I want you to learn one new skill and practice it all year" and upped the ante five times. This training reminds me how important it is to discuss negotiation c… Continue
