Homeless Education, Social Responsibility
My Bio:
I grew up in the South Park Neighborhood of Houston TX, as the child of Freddy and Cherria Rattler, the second oldest of three brothers and a sister. While growing up, my parents made plain the importance of thinking for oneself, and caring for other human beings in need. They helped me develop a strong sense of community responsibility and a desire to help make the world a better place. These lessons have stuck with me to this day.
After finishing High school at Ross S. Sterling, I went on to obtain B.S. Degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Physics from Prairie View A & M University. After finishing my formal education, I decided to dedicate my time to my community in many ways.
In 2005, I started volunteering with the homeless at Houston’s SEARCH Project in an effort to understand the complex nature of the interaction between all of the forces that contribute to the homeless situation as it is today. During this time, I decided to Raise awareness for Homelessness with a 1,800 mile walk from TX to California, and initiated the Houston SleepOut, an annual event where Houstonian's sleep outside for one night, in order to gain an appreciation for the homeless condition, and raise money for the effort.
I have also joined the Board of Directors of two organizations:
1. Women Healing and Empowering Women (WHEW!) - an organization dedicated to the issues surrounding domestic violence, recidivism, and homelessness in women of color
2. SEARCH's Young Ambassador's – a group of young professionals that are aim to serve the homeless through supporting the activities, goals, and objectives of SEARCH Homeless Services. Although I am not on the Boards of the following organizations, I am a highly active contributing member of both, the Crestmont Park Civic Association which promotes a spirit of service, unity, and community to those in the civic area, and the Inner City Emergency Response Team which promotes disaster preparedness and emergency response training for community members.
The effort I put into the community is a reflection of my mission to improve the world around us. It is my hope that through them, I can inspire others to give more of themselves, because the future is only as good as we allow it to be.
What I do best:
I am best at speaking about Homeless Awareness and my walk to be specific, but I have experience at emceeing events, and have talked to groups that range from 6 - 80 years.
I charge a fee of:
$501-$1500
Some notes on how I charge for my services:
I will charge based on the distance I will have to travel, the scale of the event, and the organizations budget. I am flexible.
If you ever wondered about what it feels like to walk across the Texas-New Mexico Border, dodge Rattlesnakes in New Mexico, swing your feet over the edge of the grand canyon, suffer minor harassment from park rangers and walk through the Mojave Dese…
