Lessons Learned from a SmartCEO Summit

I am honored to have been selected as a Smart100 CEO by SmartCEO Magazine. The caliber of the other selected CEOs was humbling. These business owners have made a tremendous impact on the local, national, and global business markets. They set the standard for leadership, and have so much to offer all of us. As a result of my selection, I will be attending many valuable networking events, and I look forward to sharing take-aways with you.

Yesterday, I attended the SmartCEO Summit, which had about… Continue

Empowering Your Business Passion

Today a fellow woman business owner reached out to me for advice on building her brand. She and her husband have another venture going as well, but this other venture is really her husband’s business. She was questioning why she seemed to have the vision to build her business, but couldn’t develop the same ability for her husband’s business.

I suggested that perhaps it comes down to a feeling of passion: the passion she feels for her business, and the lack of passion she feels for her husband’s… Continue

A Priceless, Intangible Payoff of Entrepreneurship

Today a long-time employee of Information Experts (also known as an IEer) sent me an article. The title is "The ROI of Business Friendships." The article talked about the payoffs of having true friendships at the office. Among those payoffs are:

- People with a best friend at work are seven times more likely to be engaged in their work.

- Close friendships at work boost employee satisfaction by nearly 50%.

- People with at least three close friends at work are 46% more likely to be extremely… Continue

January 20, 2009: A Day of Hope and Self-Accountability

Like so many of you, I was glued to the TV from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM today to witness history in the making. But today is about so much more than an African American taking the Presidential oath - although this is such an important, significant moment for America. Today is also about a renewed sense of hope, and the enormous burden of responsibility that all of us should feel to rebuild America.

As I watched President Obama solemnly pledge to protect and defend our constitution, and lead our cou… Continue

Hi Marissa,

If you are looking for the best editor/proofreader let me know. My 48,000 word manuscript was submitted error-free which is unheard of in the publishing industry.

As an entrepreneur, please let me know how else I may help you,

Jim

Marissa, welcome to SpeakerSite. I'm glad you're here.

With thousands of members, SpeakerSite is the largest social network for public speakers and event planners. Our substantial continuing growth is good for all of us. The more speakers and event planners we have, the more opportunities for connecting more speakers with more audiences.

So, I’m wondering: How did you hear about SpeakerSite? Please send me a message.

Anyway, it’s good for you — and all of us — if your profile is great and if you help spread the word. Here are links to two pages that can help:

1. How to Make the Most of Your SpeakerSite Profile.

2. How to Spread the Word About SpeakerSite. Would you please take a moment now to invite your friends? (You can use the "Invite" function in the main menu.)

Also, you might need to finetune how much email you get from SpeakerSite. It takes a little work. Here is some advice on the issue.

Feel free to join (or start) more Groups -- or put any question in the Forum area. (Of course, make sure your message is appropriate for the particular Forum discussion you‘re visiting.) And feel free to contact me or Rob Emrich. As the co-founders of SpeakerSite, we are here for you.

May 2009 bring you only happiness!

Thanks!

Marissa, I released my first book last year through a publisher. Right now, I'm on the cusp of releasing my newest book which I am self-publishing. I've learned a LOT. I'm not an expert on the subject, but I will gladly share what I do know. Are your questions about the mechanics (size, layout), economics (costs, revenue), or marketing? Feel free to email or call.
