Profile Information

I am a:
Speaker
I speak about:
Advertising/Public Relations, Best Selling Author, Celebrity, Communication, Community Relations, Consulting, Creativity, Current Events, Marketing, Media
Other Topics I Speak About (not listed above)
Book and author promotion. We work with authors on how to get their book promoted through traditional media as weill as using the internet. We tell them how to get speaking engagments, set up book tours, and how to wage a national or regional marketing campaign for their book.
My Bio:
I was a teacher in the Chicago Public schools before working in public relations. I also started a legal clinic for children. Working for the Field Museum and the Chicago International Film Festival, I placed stars, directors, and producers on radio, TV and in the media. We now have a PR firm specializing in authors. We arrange book and media tours, special events, booksignings, interviews with newspapers, magazines, radio and TV shows, bloggers, and website creators. We speak at writers' conferences on the topic of book promotion in order to help authors understand the importance of marketing. I married an author who has written three books. He has been on 312 TV shows including Oprah, The View, The Early Show, CNN, The Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning, I've Got a Secret, and World News Tonight, discussing his book "Cuss Control: The Complete Book on How to Curb Your Cursing". We won three national awards for promoting that book. In between all of this we raised two daughters. One is a lawyer who quit the law and created her own dog walking business and one is the Lancome manager at Nordstroms in Skokie, Illinois.
What I do best:
I work very closely with authors getting them the publicity they deserve for their books. Our PR firm writes press releases, press kits, web and blog content and press materials. Radio, TV, magazine, newspaper, blog and website interviews are what I arrange seamlessly. I truly believe in my clients and will work tirelessly to make them famous.
I charge a fee of:
$1500-$5K
Some notes on how I charge for my services:
It depends on the size of the project. Since we are in the Midwest, our fees are very reasonable and we will work on a budget that the client is comfortable with.. We are very fair and our clients are all very happy. We can work on a project basis or on a monthly retainer.

Looking for speaking engagements at interesting book conferences

In 2010 we hope to be speaking at different book conferences on the topic of book promotion. We like to help authors drive book sales by getting them into the media, and book conferences draw authors needing help.
So far, we have been asked to travel to to Oxford, MS, Seeley Lake, MT, and Madison, WI for conferences. We are waiting for San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Portland, OR to get back to us.
If anyone knows any good writing conferencs which need marketing experts, please let me know.

Southern History

We just returned from Madison and Washington, Georgia where it is lush and beautiful. Madison and Georgia were two cities spared by General Sherman during the Civil War. A friend of Sherman's pleaded with him not to burn these two towns so now the towns have remained intact. There are over 100 Antebellum homes in each city and they are wonderful. If you ever want to play golf and lean about the South, I recommend that you visit here. Madison is 1 hour 10 minutes from Atlanta and Washinton is abo… Continue

Mississippi was wonderful

We loved Mississippi. We toured the Delta and the whole area was like a living museum. The buildings are like they were long ago and the people are wonderful. We had dinner and luncheons inside beautiful mansions and we met the owners of the bookstores, restaurants, and retail establishments.
Speaking at the U. of Mississippi was rewarding and we met many authors and historians there. Authors need help promoting their books and they don't know how to do this. We gave them tips how to do this.

Hi, Lynda, sorry I didn't see your question earlier about my Grassroots Marketing for Authors and Publishers book. I just answered it at http://www.speakersite.com//index.php/groups/group/show?groupUrl=publicityguidanceforspeakers& and will paste that here for your convenience:

Kremer certainly has more ideas in his 1001 book, but I think I give more instruction on actually carrying them out. Also mine focus on those that don't require a huge budget. He has both frugal and expensive strategies in his mix. He is a friend and gave an endorsement--as did Dan Poynter, Fern Reiss, Marilyn Ross, and other experts. (You can see them all at http://www.grassrootsmarketingforauthors.com/endorsements.html). Also, if you order directly from me, my book includes several bonuses including two e-books, one aimed more at self-publishers, called How to Write and Publish a Marketable Book, and the other covering book marketing on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

The book is designed to be useful to people who publish on their own, traditionally, or through a subsidy house. My big-house-author wife made sure of that!

Thanks again for asking.

Lynda,

Good connecting with you. Certainly is a challenging time for the entrepreneur seeking capital.

I have developed a financial planning concept that caters to the rather unique needs of entrepreneurs. Rather than focusing on tax deductions and proper asset allocation, we focus on building large positions of liquidity (access to cash) in an environment that is protected from creditors. Our clients can thrive in their business(es) knowing that they will always have access to cash. Cash that cannot be touched by creditors if financial devastation occurs. Specific plans vary by state.

Anyway, also trying to write a book that details the concepts. A challenging feat I am realizing.

Keep in touch - perhaps our paths will cross in some capacity.

Brad Fisher

We do not finance entrepreneurs, rather, we creatively position their personal assets to give them greater control and flexibility.

Sounds wonderful!

What's your agents name? We likely are already working with him/her on other projects. Richard Curtis, John Willig, Bill Gladstone, Peter Miller, etc. we love them all!

We are alot like Bloomberg, O'Reily and others as we do not pay advances, but we also do not take ownership of the intellectual property rights. We can chat. My number is 800-485-4943 ext 102.

Let's set up a time to chat this week. Go to www.Morgan-James.com/david and see if there is a spot on our calendars that mesh.

Thanks!
David
