Dan Brantley added a discussion to the group Speaker Marketing
i've always heard that 90% of speakers do not like marketing and therefore do very little of it... So my question is: How much do you market? An hour a day? Full time in-between gigs? Email? Direct Mail? Telephone calling? Cold Calls? None? More no…

My Bio:
A unique combination of business skills and improvisational comedy experience. Dan Brantley believes that if you leap the net will appear. He specializes in the particular demands of adding energy, humor and imagination to meetings, and in revealing the creativity, humor and innovation that already exists in his audiences.

Besides his ten years with the Guava Bomblets, Dallas' premier improvisational comedy troupe, and his twenty years as a humorist and motivational speaker, he also spent nine years as VP of the largest parking lot sweeping company in the United States. While there he grew the company by over 150%. Having too much confidence in his own abilities he started his own sweeping company in Austin, Texas, which, unfortunately, succeeded too slowly to survive. But since anything that doesn't kill you makes a good story, his programs have only been improved by this failure.

Dan is one of those rare individuals who can be a success at absolutely anything he tries, and his restlessness and low boredom threshold have enabled him to test this ability, often. He subscribes to the "seat-of-the-pants" school of career planning and is now, or at some point was:
... a licensed real estate agent, certified mediator, improvisational actor and comedian, door to door encyclopedia salesperson, Eagle Scout, corporate recruiter, professional speaker, seminar and workshop leader, writer, stay at home Dad, video producer, paperboy, tomato picker, car salesman, and a package truck loader for UPS. He sold TIme/Life books by phone and briefly sold insurance. He has started companies and started fights, but he has never been to Graceland..., nor has he ever let the truth get in the way of a good story.

He is married to a gorgeous women and is the father of three brilliant sons, at least two of which are orchestral caliber string players. According to his oldest son "It is evidently a generation skipping talent..." since Dan can only sing with the radio on, very loud.

He lives in University Park, a Dallas, Texas area community, where his seeming lack of regular employment blends in well with the trust fund babies and well to do investors of the city.

Although his parents are both native Texans, he was born in Virginia and cannot make that claim.

He is a graduate of the University of North Texas, and fourteen Defensive Driving Classes.

As a Speaker/Seminar/Leader/Trainer he has made presentations to, SBC, SWBYP, MCI, ATT, SWAA, PFS, CECU, TXU, EDS, and a lot of other companies who refused to even let him use their initials.

He travels often and would retire to a cruise ship if possible, but since his retirement planning includes a lot of lottery tickets, this is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

He collects strange covers of popular songs and has in his collection bluegrass versions of The Beatles, African acapella versions of Jimi Hendrix, reggae versions of Pink Floyd, and too many pop tunes in different languages to count.

His programs are an interactive mix of humor and insight that lead a group to hitherto unimagined destinations. A journey, if you will, enjoy the ride.

Hi Dan

Do you have anything to do with SXSW in Austin at all?

The Aussie contingent this year is one of the biggest, our musicians appear to be enjoying a positive experience.

Hi Dan

Lovely to hear from you Dan; and yeah ...like you, I too can always have more work on my books, but I am in a better position than this time last year.

I too have a gala event coming up this weekend, which will be a hoot. It's a tea dance launching Seniors Week out west.

To answer your question about Autumn, the colors in NSW are not as vibrant as Tasmania.

Tasmania is said to be similar to the South Island in New Zealand; it's beauty and topography is breathtaking.

The heat on the mainland is scorching; which I can't stand.

We are experiencing a lot of rain in Sydney at the moment. Perhaps it's because I was born in England, but my mood and energy really lifts in the rain. Like a fern, lifting it's fronds to the dew is how I feel in the rain.

All the best to you and yours Dan.

Hi Dan,
I love to laugh and to make others laugh and I am delighted to have a friend who is a humorist. Thanks for adding me to your friends list.

Hi Dan,
I love to use humor with my patients. I sometimes give them "laugh therapy" homework. I love to empower them and help them to realize that, though some things are serious, we often take ourselves too seriously.
I also teach them that laughter produces healing endorphins. So even after a good cry, when your immune system may be compromised, it's important to follow up with laughter.
Thanks for the connection!

Thanks Dan,

I would like to meet you as we can probably do each other some good and who knows what else. Please give me a call at 817-371-7894. Please also remind me of how we met as I meet and hear from so many people, as do you, that my memory bank sometimes goes "THUD."

Regards,

Hey my fellow coffee drinker,

Thanks for the add, I am honored to be your friend!

I have some funny stories that happened to me during speaking gigs that everyone love. I will share with the post in the future.

So what is your favorite coffee? I myself love me some French Roast and Morning Thunder.

Hi Dan, thank you for linking up and I always appreciate a good sense of humour - especially in these testing times. I can't say that the Dixie Chicks have ever done anything for me (least of all open for me) - best I've had is to follow the odd Member of Parliament. However, I have been to Graceland.
Best wishes, Christine
