Hello fellow Brits (and yes you too Martin!)

Great to find new ways to connect in what can be a lonely profession of speaking!

I'd like to endorse Roger's comments below about PSA. I am the NW president and we meet every 1st Tuesday evening of the month in Manchester. My support from PSA has given me the confidence to speak in Australia and also at the European Parliament - not bad when a few years earlier I just spoke to my class of school children!

Give me a call or send me a message if you'd like to pop along and meet us!

Hey guys, I was stopping by to say G'day and notice 'UK Speakers Group' are catching up with us 'Speakers down under over here'

The gap in membership is only 12 ... it's beginning to look like a game of cricket LOL...!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ray Osborne Comment by Ray Osborne on January 17, 2009 at 1:27pm
The language gap a problem? When I came back to the US from living in the UK for a number of years my accent was thicker and I found that people would listen
to how I would say things rather the content of what I was saying. This must be an impediment for US speakers in the UK and UK speakers in the US. Of course a sprinkling of the accent could help but if too broad could cause one's audience to lose attention.

Agree? Thoughts on this? 'Tone it down"must be the rule of order, eh?

Hi All,
I'd like to sing the praises of The Professional Speakers Association and the help and support it gives to help experts who speak for a living thrive through what's ahead of us.
The PSA is there simply to help it's members speak more and speak better. Every activity - be it in the Chapters around the country or nationally - has those two aims in mind.
The highlight of the year is the National Convention (13th-15th November 2009 in Marlow) where we get over 30 top speakers from around the world to focus on helping us - it's awesome!
If you are serious about professional speaking you should be a member.
If you'd like to know more give me a call.

Just to introduce myself, I am a co-founder or the Professional Speakers Association (PSA) and the UK's only World Silver Medallist in Public Speaking. While based in the UK, I have actually spoken in 16 countries, on Cross Culture, Communication Skills and Discovering the Brand That's You. This seems like a great forum and I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of you.

Hello everybody (as this is a UK group I won't use "Hi" ;-))))

Well, I don't live in the UK, but I do speak regularly in the UK - do I still qualify?

I hope my friends in PSA will speak in my favour. ;-)

Well, having been born in Austria, actually the UK Speaker group is sort of the closest shot to home that I might get here on this site, won't I?

Looking forward to the exchange with all of you and I hope that I'll be able to also contribute a bit here and there.

Here's a tip folks -- for those speaking occasions in poorly equipped venues or for long workshops. This summer I bought myself a portable PA system. The Alesis mobile "Transactive" PA is similar to a wheelie-style suitcase. It has wheels on the bottom, an extending handle and fits neatly in the back of my Smart Car. It has built-in rechargeable batteries that will power it for half a day and comes complete with a decent microphone and an iPod dock (which I use to provide ambient background before events start. It also has an input from my mixing desk for more sophisticated sound setups. It cost just over £150 and is possibly one of the best investments I've made. It really adds a presence in situations where I would otherwise be struggling to keep projecting -- and no more sore throats afterwards! (Tip - You can also find these in PC World with a different brand label, but they're just the same).

Hi all, I am a positive work psychologist. I am particularly interested in viewing life and work through a lens of what works rather than what doesn't and the use of social media, like this site, to get organized.

I live in Olney newr Milton Keynes, done heaps of teaching and consulting, and slightly more interested in mobiizing than speaking.

Looking forward to getting to know you!

Hi Christine and welcome to the UK group and speakers site.
I set this group up as I am sure there are lots of UK based speakers who could benefit from connecting to each other.

Now the holiday season ha passed maybe we can start some discussions
Best wishes to you all in 2009
