So I'm wondering... I'm creating a home study program on internet marketing topics for business people who are time poor. What do you think is better?

1. A manual with good background info (200 pgsish) and activities plus 2 CDs
2. A workbook with some info plus 5 CDs containing major content

I like reading stuff because I read quick and I can do it anywhere but CDs are also useful because they can be put in when driving or converted to mp3

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :-)

Hi Brad
As it is for business people I would defiantly go with the Cd/ MP3.
Being able to leverage the time traveling in the car, I find is a huge bonus for business owners.
Many are realizing the importance of health as well, so MP3 is great as they can listen in the gym to.

Hi Brad,

My personal preference to purchase would be the manual with CDs. However, I would be attracted to a MP3 player, already loaded with a workbook whereas a stack of CDs leaves me unaffected.

Good luck with the product,

cheers,
Sharon

Hey Brad! Everybody is different, but what I find for myself is that I will listen to the audio program for the basic, non-technical information but for the 'how to' stuff, I want a manual that I can continue to refer back to. However; that's just the type of learner I am.

Hi Brad,

As my business, ProductFunnelFormula.com, teaches business owners how to turn their knowledge into great info products and fill their funnel, I can give you feedback from my own experiences with my customers and clients.

As you say, the majority of business owners are time poor so want specific, succinct information in the clearest way possible. Most opt for mp3's with transcriptions or accompanying notes. So I agree with Jay, audio programs for most of your content, but detailed info is best provided in written format. Throw in a few dvd's as well if possible. Especially as your topic is internet marketing, people love to see 'how' things are done so if you don't want to get in front of a camera, make some camtasia screenshots etc.

When creating a higher end product such as a home study program, it's best to think about the various learning modalities i.e. Auditory (create mp3's/Cd's), Visual (written), Kineasthetic (a folder they can hold for the 'thud' factor) and also Experiential (dvd's and even some one on one coaching). Therefore, I encourage my clients to create some content in each format. This is a way to wow your own clients as there will always be content they think you've made 'just for them'. Combining different formats also gives a much higher perceived value for the product.

Another thing you may like to think about is - if creating audios, have the transcriptions available in pdf format. Perhaps you will be encouraging your customers to visit other sites and you may well be an affiliate. When they listen to an audio, they will take a note of the url you mention and visit it later. However, in the pdf format you can have your links include your affiliate code. This is a great way to earn additional income from your products.

My own home study program is given immediately on purchase on a usb memory stick. I sell this from the back of the room and customers are delighted to take something home straight away in exchange for their money (increases sales like crazy). Sales made from my website are also delivered this way (inexpensive to post as they weigh very little). The 'thud factor' then is delivered two weeks later - all the pdf's printed and bound in a manual, cd's and dvd's presented in a case. This is also beneficial as it is inexpensive. USB sticks are so cheap and easy to copy content to, and I don't need to have any printing done in advance. Therefore, I only produce the products AFTER sales have been made.

I hope some of this information provides food for thought as you produce your own home study program. Good luck with it.

Cheers,
Danette

Thanks Danette,

I like the USB idea with the full product followup. I'm more an expert at membership sites and selling online rather than physical products :-)

Thank you all for the feedback and please keep it coming. Although I understand all the technical side of product creation and writing courses etc I'm still getting my head around what more experienced speakers have learnt. I appreciate your time greatly.
