Yesterday, I watched the Holden cars race around the track at the Holden Driving Center. I was there to speak to the members of the Supply Cluster.

As the cars moved with so much speed and grace, I couldn’t help but notice the team of people who were supporting the drivers of the cars. It wasn’t just a one man effort. When you think about your organization and what it takes to cross the finish line first -it’s more than just the owner, the CEO, the Manager – It’s a complete TEAM effort.

As I spoke to the group, I pointed out the importance of giving praise and credit to all members of your TEAM. You would be surprised at how members of a team can feel isolated and disenfranchised because of their perception of their worth within an organization.

In some cases all it takes is a little recognition on a job well done, that makes a difference between winning the checkered flag and not even finishing the race.

So the next time you head into the pit stop for some creative work on the running of your organization….

Make sure you show your appreciation to the CREW!!

Those pit stop teams are amazing. They are so fluid in their team work, it's almost poetry in motion.

In saying appreciation is almost like a magic formula, I can only cite my own experiences as evidence. When I've had employers who valued my worth, I couldn't do enough for them. But ...one employer springs to mind when I think of not just how unproductive I became as a result of his dogmatic and demanding leadership.

Leaders and their teams have so much to gain in a culture of gratitude and appreciation.
