To engrave, or not to engrave, that will be the outcome:
As a former Political Press Secretary and SpeechWriter, I learned from personal experience, we live and die according to our written and spoken words Reputations and careers are won and lost through the use and misuse of words.
For example. I received a promotion, after another Political Staffer was forced to resign. Indeed, his careless words during a federal election campaign, cost him not only his job, but his political career.
The then Prime Minister (John Howard) demanded the red faced Staffer tender his resignation. While I was embarrassed on behalf of my colleague, I was also delighted with the unexpected promotion, as the new role carried a higher degree of writing and speaking.
Which leads me to our use of words, and our grasp of their weight and meaning. As we set our intention for 2009, a word worthy of our consideration is ‘write’. One meaning of the word ‘write’ is, ‘to engrave on the heart and mind’. As well as that, the word ‘engrave’ means, ‘to cut or carve a text or design on the surface of a hard object; or ‘to be permanently fixed in one’s memory or mind.’ (ref. Wikipedia)
I set a clear intention to be found engraving this blog as Australia begins her count down on 2008. Neither am I embarrassed to admit I’m at my computer writing and planning with 2009 tapping on my window. (Besides I don’t mind boasting the view of the Sydney Harbor fireworks from my balcony is as good as it gets.*feeling chuffed as she waves across the ocean*)
But I digress ...
Like a woman possessed, I have been working on nothing but writing a 2009 blog schedule, and shaking the dust off one of my six unpublished books. And all this has come about since my recent recovery from a two year writers block.
And here’s the call: I am inviting you to join others by engraving on your heart, and carving in the minds of others in this space; that one burning goal, that must above all others, be accomplished (or set in motion) before close of business in 2009.
The invitation includes a return to this space to check in where you engraved your goal on the hard rock of impossibility. You could very well discover your hard rock of impossibility transformed into the hard cover of a best seller.
Remember to engrave or not to engrave; that will be your outcome.

In answer to a couple of questions I have received on this subject, I have decided we will check in on each other monthly.
In this way, we can encourage each other past road blocks and obstacles.
It will be fun sharing in each others blood, sweat and tears. Even more importantly sharing our victories at the finish line.

This is a difficult question to find the answer. I so resolutely do not make resolutions for the New Year that I am having to think quite deeply about this question. To engrave with all these witnesses a resolution will mean to me that it will have to be achieved. I have this thing about promises, I must keep them. All we ever have is our word. I have a sculpture that has been years in the making. I am determined to finish that within 2 months so if I haven't finished by the closing of 2009 I will need to be whipped. It is a woven wire depiction of the gold mask of Tutankhamen. Other end of 2009 projections will be conducting regular workshops in wire sculpting so I may share my passion for this incredible medium.

I chose to engrave my intentions for 2009. I've been teaching and coaching business owners/leaders for over 35 years. I observed the thinking and behaviors that created beyond-your-wildest-dreams success. In contrast, I also observed the thinking and behaviors that perpetually keep success at arm's length - or worse, brings the debilitating stress of financial and business failure. As we approach the end of the year, it’s a great time to re-evaluate where you’ve been for the past year and where and what you want your business to look like going forward. To that end, here are 10 No-Compromise New Year’s Resolutions to help you lead your company and your team toward success in 2009 from the strongest position possible - the position of No-Compromise Leadership.
1. Always put people before profit. Period. Do that, lead them with passion, trust them to do the right thing, give them the freedom to do it, help them have fun and the profit will come.
2. Listen and really hear what employees have to say. They are the front line of your business that customers see and hold the insights to make things better. Respond to their suggestions and make them feel valuable.
3. Always clarify expectations. People need to know where they stand and where they are going. Paint a high-definition picture of your desired outcome, then establish progress checkpoint dates and times. Start each day or shift with a huddle. Provide positive and constructive feedback at every turn. Share the information they need to do their jobs.
4. Create equality and fairness by eliminating double standards. This means the same rules that apply to your team apply to you - that all team members are treated the same. It also means you and all your team members will roll up your sleeves and pitch in when needed and that you never talk about, gossip or degrade an employee to others.
5. Tackle the tough stuff before it gets out of hand. Right now, you know exactly what’s on that short list of problems and issues your company needs to address. Address and fix them now because it’s easier to stamp out a matchstick than a blazing forest fire.
6. Never put off a crucial conversation, even if it’s outside of your comfort zone. When you avoid or fail to act on an issue or problem, you are dealing with a leadership blockage. Acting from emotions can interfere with your ability to see and confront reality and lead to great frustration on both sides. Once you do, you’ll wonder why you waited so long.
7. Raise the bar on customer service to the highest rung. Customer loyalty comes from delivering extraordinary service, quality and value with a no-compromise passion. No matter what business you are in, customer loyalty drives the true growth leaders. It starts by listening to your customers and your front-line team. Never accept inferior performance or poor quality service. Your customers will notice, whether or not they tell you.
8. Protect the financial integrity of the company. Accountability at all levels of the company to adhere to its financial control systems is the determining factor of your company’s profitability performance. You need to create a cash-flow projection, to live your plan, to pay attention to all your financial reports, to understand your financials, build cash reserves and manage debt.
9. Achieve maximum consistency through accountability to your systems. Systems give your business predictability. They reduce the chances of things going awry, spinning out of control or otherwise becoming more stressful than necessary.
10. Create a no-compromise culture that is pure world class. Strengthen, nurture and protect your business culture from contamination at all costs. Great leaders aren’t great because they’re innovative, understand numbers or have good communication skills. They’re great because they design, build and fiercely protect the cultures they are empowered to lead.

In 2005/2006 I presented a seminar where I harnessed passion, enthusiasm and intent. At the time it was not pre-planned, but perhaps pre-determined and this is where I introduced "THINK, PLAN, EXECUTE!" a statement that would later become a platform and movement a way of life. It was the statement that would signal a conscious thought to make my transition from music business consultant to Motivational Speaker & Business Consultant.
Within a relatively short time period "THINK, PLAN, EXECUTE!" has blossomed and others are repeating it and putting it to use in their daily lives. This is a three step process that may allow anyone to get more out of life and demand the richest they deserve. In fact with due diligence one may become happy, healthy and wealthy by following the "THINK, PLAN, EXECUTE!" movement.
"THINK, PLAN, EXECUTE!" is what I will continue to engrave into everyone that will listen using telepathic transmissions, written text on paper, on websites, blogs, videos, text messages, telephones, teleseminars, webinars and every other mechanism and medium non and yet to be known to man.

I hereby engrave my intentions for this year:
I intend to share my technical skills and saavy with as many people as possible.
In these uncertain economic times, business owners are going to rely more and more on technology. I have been in the technology business for 20 plus years and I feel an obligation to share what I have learned with the people who need my help.
I truly believe that "what goes around comes around" and that if I provide help and guidance, I will be taken care of.
Thank you Catherine for giving me this opportunity to share my intentions.
