SpeakerSite

I've been on Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn and Plaxo for several years, but was not actively using them to promote my business. I recently got on Twitter and realized I was missing the boat and see so many new things out there like Digg, Propellor and Pounce. How have you been using Social Media in your Branding and Marketing?

Hey John,
Thanks for asking this question. I just completed a radio broadcast breaking down how speakers can use social media to grow their business. I personally use about six social media sites regularly and set up a strategic plan to make the most of my time. After I set up a plan which included marketing, branding, positioning and the best way to duplicate my efforts across the all my marketing activities I noticed results. It's all collective and if you really think about it and plan effectively it makes all the difference. If you get a chance go to this page http://TwitPWR.com/6zo/ and download the broadcast where I explain the process step by step and you will also get access to my 7 page ebook which will get you started on creating a powerful social media plan. Thanks

Social networking is an essential tool in PR and Marketing, indeed not to use it is, as you say, to miss the boat.

That said, social networks can begin to look like my shoe closet. While I have a pair for every occasion, I can only use one at time.

For me, my two main sites are SpeakerSite and Linkedin, followed by myspace and twitter. As a Communicator, SpeakerSite works for me better than Linkedin, as it's more interactive and user friendly. I have badges on pages where possible.

I could do a lot more with each of them, but there's only so many hours in the day, however they are working for me.

I think we need to be strategic in our implementation, otherwise we run ourselves into the ground trying to keep up with them all.

Hi Catherine!

Thanks for your insight. I had to smile about running into the ground! There are some tweeples on twitter that seem to be there all the time. I don't know when they have time to actually DO business. I'm trying to follow your advice and be more strategic in how I use these. I'm finding SpeakerSite, LinkedIn and Twitter are pretty useful. I'm struggling a bit with Facebook - the interface seems a bit clunky to me and there are "rules" which I'm still trying to figure out. I just stumbled upon a neat site called Liveperson.com. They allow you to sign up as an "expert" for no fee, and you can do online consulting. Not exactly speaking.... but it seems intriguing to me.

All the best,
All the time,
John

That's interesting Alexander; as I feel the same as John about FBook.

Myspace is my preference over Fbook... but that said, it really comes down to individual and business preference.

That's impressive Alexander.
